From Sweden, With Love...

Hello Everyone,

So, I have pretty much been sucked into the Black-Hole-Of-International-Moves for the last year and a half. We have once again moved, but this time to stay. We picked Sweden, with Sweden being the Canada of Europe, in our humble opinion. Either way, we are all exceedingly happy here, and it is just unfortunate that moving takes precious time away from Art. Argh.

Nevertheless, thanks to the lovely Anna-Lena, I have now found a place to fire my latest creations until I can set-up my own kiln. Also, thanks to Olivier’s request for new waxes for his special broadcast for La Maison France 5 on Saturday, June 7th, I will have some unexpected new glass pieces for my show this October.

The past year has just whizzed by as we all got used to a new country, a new job (I am starting out the French Program at an International School in order to get out of my Atelier and SEE ACTUAL PEOPLE!), house-hunting (still no luck), and preparations for my up-coming show.

The focus in October will be Scandinavian Mythology, so I have created a Valkyrie, Loki, Hel, Freja, and of course, Thor. Stay tuned for upcoming entries!

Slovak Mythology: The Vodník

I'm starting a new series on Slovak Mythology, and began with this little half man-half frog critter, my first interpretation of the infamous "Vodník"...so if you're ever wondering what that thing lurking in your pond is all about...meet Crouching Vodník!

HOPE Brussels Rixensart

So, now that the sculpting part of this project is finished, I am very much looking forward to sharing it with all of you!  I will be set-up in the middle of the Maison Communal in Rixensart,  Avenue de Mérode 75, 1330 Rixensart, Belgium (+32 (0)2 634 21 21) from the 1st to the 19th of September.   Don't forget to come out for the Rixensart en Fête on Sunday, September 17th, a day of community fun , art, and sunshine!

Laurence

Laurence was my last model of the day.  She is Belgian, and happily announced that her source of hope is herself!  It was a great way to end a wonderful day.

Laurence était mon dernier modèle du jour.  Elle est belge, et a annoncé avec joie que sa source d'espoir est elle-même!  C'était une excellente fin à une journée merveilleuse.

Sydney

Sydney is originally from India, and like so many others finds hope in family.

Sydney est originaire d'Inde et, comme tant d'autres, trouve de l'espoir en famille.

Lionel

Lionel is a very cheerful young Belgian who finds hope in travelling.

Lionel est un jeune belge très joyeux qui trouve de l'espoir dans le voyage et la rencontre.

Naomi

Naomi, a young Belgian, finds hope in love.

Naomi, une jeune belge, trouve de l'espoir dans l'amour.

Franky

I found Franky sitting with his daughter having a coffee at the airport.  He's Belgian, and finds hope in peace.

J'ai trouvé Franky assis avec sa fille en prenant un café à l'aéroport.  Il est belge et trouve son espoir en paix.

Jean-Didier

Jean-Didier is French-Congolese, and he also finds hope in life itself.

Jean-Didier est français-congolais, et il trouve aussi l'espoir dans la vie elle-même.

Harfiz

Harfiz is from Ghana, and I have never seen someone so happy and cheery!  It is no surprise that he finds hope when a new baby is born.

Harfiz vient du Ghana, et je n'ai jamais vu quelqu'un aussi heureux et joyeux!  Il n'est pas surprenant qu'il trouve l'espoir lorsqu'un nouveau bébé est né.

Wedad

Wedad, also from Sudan, was the sweetest and shyest model of the day.  She finds her hope when she takes care of others.

Wedad, également du Soudan, était le modèle le plus doux et le plus timide de la journée.  Elle trouve son espoir quand elle s'occupe des autres.

Mutrin

Mutrin is from Sudan, and finds hope in Life itself.

Mutrin est originaire du Soudan, et trouve son espoir dans la vie elle-même.

Anne

Anne is Belgian and couldn't stop laughing as I called her husband the most handsome man of the airport.  She also finds hope in family.

Anne est belge et n'a pas pu arrêter de rire alors que j'avais appelé son mari l'homme le plus beau de l'aéroport. Elle trouve aussi de l'espoir dans la famille.

Eric

Eric is Celine's dad, and the most handsome man of the day!  His beautiful laugh-lines show his good nature, and he also finds hope in family.

Eric est le père de Celine, et l'homme le plus beau du jour!  Ses jolies lignes de rire montrent sa bonne nature, et il trouve lui aussi de l'espoir dans la famille.

Celine

Celine is a Belgian cutie: she was so happy, at the airport waiting with her parents for her brother to arrive.  It is no surprise that she finds hope in family.

Céline est une femme belge: elle était si heureuse à l'aéroport, attendant avec ses parents pour son frère d'arriver. Il n'est pas surprenant qu'elle trouve de l'espoir dans la famille.

Nico

Nico - another Belgian - finds that people who want to change the world give him hope.

Nico - un autre belge - trouve que les gens qui veulent changer le monde lui donnent l'espoir.

Paul

Paul is Belgian and finds hope in peace.

Paul est belge et trouve son espoir dans la notion de la paix.

Husman

Husman was my first model of the day at Zaventem airport.  He is Dutch, and he finds hope in the happiness of others.  

Husman était mon premier modèle de la journée à l'aéroport de Zaventem.  Il est néerlandais, et il trouve de l'espoir dans le bonheur des autres.
